Grilled Portobello Mushroom Burgers

To continue our National Grilling Month recipe series, we are highlighting this incredible savory and delicious grilled portabella mushroom burger recipe! Grilling is not only for big juicy steaks and brats, there are so many delicious and healthy options to choose from. Grilled portobello mushrooms provide a huge boost of flavor compared to oven baked portobellos and there is far less clean up! The full recipe and instructions are below.

Grilled Portobello Mushroom Burgers



  • 4 large portobello mushrooms stems and gills removed
  • 1/4 cup Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns
  • 1 Avocado
  • Sriracha Mayo 
  • Any other choices of your favorite toppings!


  • Whisk together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper.  Add this mixture and the mushrooms into a gallon zip lock bag and allow the mushrooms to marinate for 5-10 minutes
  • Heat a grill to roughly 400ยบ Brush the grill with oil to prevent sticking. Remove the mushrooms from the marinade and keep the rest  for basting. Cook on each side for 3-4 minutes. Brush the remaining marinade over the mushrooms several times as they cook!
  • Add these mushrooms to your prepared hamburger buns topped with sliced avocado, sriracha mayo, and any other toppings of your liking and enjoy!
