The Importance of Cleanliness & Smiles in the Workplace

Ask yourself, how do you feel when YOU Smile?

When you walk into a store, the first impression you get is how you are greeted, right? A simple smile and a friendly greeting can go a long way. I know that if I am greeted by a friendly face and a “good morning, how are you?” I will most likely browse the store. More or less, you can be turned off by the attitude of the employee, or customer service as well or even the appearance in the store itself. Here are a few reasons why excellent customer service should always start with a smile:

1. Smiling is more than an expression - It’s not just about raising your cheeks, it's delivering what your mind may be thinking. You can almost hear how someone has passion towards something when it comes with a smile. There’s no negativity, anger, or lack of interest. It really sells YOU as an individual.

2. Smiling is about attitude - Attitude will show you how the store representative or front end manager feels about their job, their work ethic, and maybe even themselves.

3. Smiling lowers your heart rate, even in stressful situations - Mind and body gestures show a lot about a person. Being nervous, or being worked up about a situation gets your heart going - however they say that smiling will calm those nerves. Keep that in mind next time you are worked up about a situation. Think about smiling!

4. Smiling is Contagious - Sometimes you see a person smiling and you wonder “what’s up with them”, what are they up to? But in reality it doesn’t have to mean that. It can just be that that person is happy and content with the situation they are in. They are proud to be the first person to greet you when you walk into a store, or just a smile may make them feel good about themselves as an individual.

The Importance of Cleanliness in the Work Atmosphere

Having a clean space shows good work ethic, it means you care about your employees and customers. Also that you care about their happiness and health. Sometimes businesses are overlooked by dirt, dust and grime until it is too late.

Having a business that is clean and kept up brightens people's day, it keeps them happy and at ease internally and externally. This sets the standards high especially in a pharmacy surrounding. It's important that you show your customers you care about organization, being neat, and that you care about everyone's overall health.

Having a store clean helps reduce the chances of clutter, when things get cluttered it starts affecting the way we work, focus and concentrate. Clutter can cause things to get missed, or “swept under the rug”. Things can be done on a timely manner with a clean space.

Staying focused and organized is a must with pharmaceuticals. Prescriptions should always be kept neat and tidy for ease of reach and quick access.

First Impressions - This is the #1 seller to a business, first impression. How it looks on the outside most likely reflects what's on the inside, or vice versa. Making sure your business is welcoming, calming, and inviting are all good things to have. First Impression is KEY to a successful business. Take pride in your product and workplace if you plan to bring in new customers or clients.

Elevation - If you walk into a place of employment and judge or question how it is being taken care of, that is lack of service. It means you won’t be able to bring in new customers, because by word of mouth, it will spread about how little the business is cared for. So take pride and keep a neat and tidy work space.

Happier Employees - Who wants to be in or work for a company who lacks or doesn’t show the effort or importance of cleanliness. You are proud and will take pride in your work area or building when it's clean and sanitized. Employees spend most of their lives at their workplace, so its extremely important to make sure they are always comfortable with where they work and how it is kept up. Studies show that employees who are happy, also are more productive.

Healthier Environment - A clean & sanitized workplace shows your professionalism. It's letting your employees and customers know you care about their health and surroundings.

Front end space is THE most important part of cleanliness, it's the first thing people see when walking into the door. A smile and what the overall appearance is the “first impression”. Whether that's nice, neat, organized, friendly staff or even having an essential oil, or soft candle burning, it's inviting to the customers. A hygienic workplace is a healthier workplace. There is less sickness and illness spreads more slowly. As a result, a hygienic workplace is also more productive.
